The SuperMoss Guide to Moss
There are so many mosses and so many ways to use them! Because of that, we have created an infographic that explains what our mosses are like, what they are best used for, and a little bit about where they come from. Whether you are crafting, creating a floral arrangement or terrarium, or you are gardening, this guide will help you decide which moss to use.
This guide is a great starting point, but don’t let it get in the way of your imagination! Everyday we are surprised at the ingenuity of our gardeners, crafters, and florists — we can’t believe some of the designs they share with us. So, if you see a way to use SuperMoss that we haven’t thought of yet, then lead the way! Who knows, maybe your project will be next in our showcase?

Am I supposed to hydrate it before applying over top of my soil?
Hi Lorraine, the only moss you’d want to hydrate before using is Sphagnum Moss. Anything else needed, let me know!
I want to use as a wall frame. Should I watering my MossMix? If yes how often?
Hi Gabi, the MossMix is preserved, it’s no longer alive so it doesn’t require watering.
Hi,
Do you have a printable version of your guide that we can hang on your display in your store?
Hi Diana,
I sent a copy of the high res file to your email. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns.

I was informed that I could start plant cuttings in green moss, however the specific moss type of “green moss” was not given to me. Any suggestions as to what type of moss I should use for starting plant cuttings?
Hi Delfina,
The best moss for planting is the long fiber sphagnum but the green sphagnum (Mountain Moss) is also a great option for starters. If you have any additional questions don’t hesitate to contact us

SuperMoss
We want to put Super Moss Instant Green mountain moss sheet mat on top of the soil of our 20 x 48” raised outdoor planter to keep soil moist and critters out. Will the mesh effectively let the water in? Safe for plants? Also want to glue to plates to use as outdoor decorations? What kind of glue would be best? Please advise.
Hi Mark,
This product is designed for decorative floral use indoors. While the product is safe for plants, we recommend keeping it out of direct sunlight as the color will fade overtime.
Best regards,
SuperMoss
I would like a large version of your super moss guide for a retail space. I am interested in creating moss wall decor for sale and providing products for clients DIY. Do you have any info to assist in this endeavor including options to purchase products in bulk (wholesale). Thank you
Hello, I am creating a snail terrarium as well as a closed plant terrarium. For the snail one, do you recommend sphagnum moss or Mountain moss? Also do you know if sheet moss is also same for isopods? Thanks for the help
Hello Oliver,
For your snail terrarium, we recommend using Sphagnum moss. Sheet Moss will work well in a closed plant terrarium with isopods. Additionally, we recommend placing dried leaves and seeds pods in the terrarium as a food source and refuge for your isopods.
Can your preserved moss be used in a planter outdoors in the sun?
Thank you
Hi Steve, yes, the preserved moss can be used in the sun, however we recommend keeping it always in indirect sunlight if outdoors. Just like anything left outdoors in the sun, the moss will dry and begin to fade in color. The color will fade to a more “natural” and “dried” moss color. In the case of a MossWeave Hanging Basket, this is typically fine, but for some of the more decorative mosses, keeping them out of the direct sun is recommended.
I have moss growing on top of my rain barrel. It is sending shoots that make me think of bamboo. Really like it but would like information about it. Thank you
I’m interested in obtaining a copy of your moss chart since I’m a beginner at creating succulent gardens for gifts.
hi I am drying flowers from my garden and making framed flower arrangements in double glass frames to give as christmas gifts can i use super moss in the arrangements without drying the moss or should i dry them first?
Thank you for your comment! Our moss is preserved so yes you can use it on your product without worrying about watering it!
HI, I would like to add some of the brighter green moss to my succulent wreath. The the wreath is made with spaghnum. Which moss can I add for decoration that will not bleed as the entire wreath becomes wet during watering.
Thank you
Hi Kay, for that application, we would recommend a natural moss such as Forest Moss Dried.
I would like to use the sheet moss on my
grapevine wreaths.
Adding silk flowers etc. and sell them.
I would probably have to poke holes in the sheet to
add the metal flower stems
into the grapevine.
I am thinking of just unrolling the sheet and applying….
I have not opened the package yet, does this all make sense?
I am a confident crafter, but, like I said, I have no idea how to use this for
wreaths. please comment.
Hi Barb, our Sheet Moss gives a natural look to any project! It is soft and easy to use, simply wrap or pull it apart according to your arrangement’s needs. Glue is commonly used for placement, but our versatile Sheet Moss effortlessly adapts to other materials.
hello. I literally love your site. I would love to get a copy of your moss chart…Thank You and enjoy your day:)
Hi Sandra, thanks for the lovely comment, we are so happy it helped! I’ll email the PDF over now.
We are interested in using the Sheet Moss on the ground between pavers. The area does get intermittent bright light, but a lot of shade, also. Would the Sheet Moss work?
Hi Claudia, that is an interesting idea! Our mosses have been known to “respawn” in the perfect environment. But, we couldn’t guarantee that there would be regrowth and that it would spread. I would also be concerned with the amount of foot traffic that would be going on. Because the moss is technically dead, it would not have a good chance of recovering from being stepped on. Its a good idea, but I dont want to lead you in the wrong direction and you have to redo all that work. Keep in mind, a small path with little foot traffic would probably be fine.
I hope this is helpful! Please don’t hesitate to ask more questions!
I’m interested in using one of the moss varietals to top the soil of a living corn plant in a large planter as a decorative feature. Can I water through the moss? Is there one specific moss that you would recommend? The corn plant gets indirect sunlight indoors only.
Thanks!
Hi Laura! You can absolutely water through the moss! I’m assuming because its indoor there is not a lot of intense sunlight. That being said, I would usually recommend the sphagnum moss for its water retention properties. It can also be used to mix in the soil as an amenity for oxygen as well as the water retention. BUT, since its indoor you can basically choose any of the mosses that fit your design style and preference. There should be no issue watering through the moss, especially if you order in its “natural” form, as apposed to PRESERVED.
If I bought one of your “SuperPole blind miss” moss poles, do I need to pre soak it?
You do not need to pre-soak your SuperPole. Simply place in the soil of your planter without harming any roots, and water your plant like you normally would!
Hey there, I love all the points you made on that topic. There is definitely a great deal to know about this subject.
Will you please email a high res file of the moss chart so I can hang in our garden center. Thank you!
Let us get back to you on that.
